Higher Horizons celebrates another successful year delivering higher education outreach in the Staffordshire, Cheshire, and Shropshire region, publishing its annual evaluation report for 2024/25 – downloadable from this page.
Higher Horizons takes evaluation seriously and is an active contributor to the evidence base of ‘what works’ in widening participation. Some of the numbers in the report should give an idea of the scale of our evaluation endeavour. We evaluate all our mid-high intensity interventions, all of which are Theory of Change designed and all of which are measured against outcomes agreed upon from the outset; our attitudinal shifts are not achieved by chance, they are planned. Indeed, that commitment to evaluation, as a process that runs through an intervention from start to finish, shows in the high hit rate our activities have in meeting their design objectives; 9 in every 10 do so.
It isn’t just numbers though and this report tries to not drown the reader in them; evaluation after all is about insight, not just statistics. On this occasion we have given the floor to our outreach practitioners, six of them writing articles on the projects they have delivered this year. The report finishes with Ant Sutcliffe, Lead for Higher Horizons, passionately describing how the report reflects so positively on a team who deliver against all odds, helping young people succeed against all odds.
